Biography

Daniel Hiestand was born on 29 May 1804 (probably in Fairfield County, Ohio); he was the son of Jacob Hiestand, II and Mary Blosser.[1]

About 1826 (probably in Fairfield County, Ohio), Daniel Hiestand married Nancy Krans/Crause. The marriage date is estimated based on the age of their oldest known child, Margaret Hiestand (born about 1827), as reported in the 1850 federal census.[2]

In 1850,[2] Daniel Heaston [sic] (age 50, born Ohio) was living in Madison Township, Hancock County, Ohio as head of household with his wife, Nancy Heaston [sic] (age 47, born Ohio), with their Heaston [sic] children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Margaret (23, F), ii) Daniel, Jr. (20, M), iii) George (18, M), iv) Mich (16, M), v) Delah (11, F), vi) Martin (9, M), vii) S. B. (6, M), viii) Lena (4, F). Daniel's occupation was a basket maker.

Research Notes

There is currently a dearth of primary sources to support the biography of Daniel Hiestand. The only solid primary source is the 1850 federal census, but it only establishes that there was a Daniel Heaston with his family in Hancock County, Ohio. Whether this was in fact the Daniel Hiestand of this WikiTree profile is unclear. Hiestand-529 02:06, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
