Nathaniel Hiestand was born on 9 Oct 1831[1] in Ohio;[2] he was the son of David Hiestand and Frances Bixler.[2]
In 1840,[3] Nathaniel Hiestand's father, David Heastand [sic], was enumerated in the federal census, and he was living in Washington Township, Hancock County, Ohio as head of household, which included [possible names]: a) males - 1 (5 - 9) [??], 3 (10 - 14) [Enoch, Levi, & Nathaniel], 1 (20 - 29) [??], 1 (40 - 49) [David Heastand]; b) females - 1 (< 5) [Magdalene], 2 ( 5 - 9) [Frances & ??], 2 (10 - 14) [Rachel & ??], 1 (30 - 39) [Fanny (Bixler) Heastand].
In 1850,[2] Nathaniel Heistand (age 19, born Ohio) was living in Washington Township, Hancock County, Ohio in the household of his father, David Heistand (age 53, born Virginia), with his mother, Fannie Heistand (age 49, born Virginia), and his Heistand siblings, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Enoch (22, M), ii) Levi (21, M), iv) Fanny (18, F), v) Magadelen (16, F), vi) David (8, M). David, Sr.'s occupation was a farmer; he owned real estate valued at $3000.
On 19 May 1853 in Wood County, Ohio,[4] Nathaniel Hieston [sic] married Nancy Weaver.
In 1860,[5] Nathaniel Heaston [sic] (age 29, born Ohio) was living in Washington Township, Hancock County, Ohio as head of household with his wife, Nancy Heaston [sic] (age 27, born Ohio), with their Heaston [sic] children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) George (6, M), ii) Emma (4, F, Michigan), iii) Susanna (2, F), iv) Fanny (0, F). Nathaniel's occupation was a farmer; he owned personal property valued at $257.
In 1870,[6] Nathaniel Hestand [sic] (age 39, born Ohio) was living in Washington Township, Hancock County, Ohio as head of household with his wife, Nancy Hestand [sic] (age 37, born Ohio), and their Hestand [sic] children, born Ohio (except as noted) (age, sex): i) George W. (16, M), ii) Emma (14, F, Michigan), iii) Susanna (13, F), iv) Fanny (11, F), v) Abraham L. (6, M), vi) Mary B. (0, F). Nathaniel's occupation was a farmer; he owned personal property valued at $697.
In 1880,[7] Nathaniel Hiestand (age 50, born Ohio) was living in Washington Township, Hancock County, Ohio as head of household with his wife, Nancy Hiestand (age 49, born Ohio), and their Hiestand children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Abraham (16, M), ii) Mary (10, F). Nathaniel's occupation was a farmer.
On 3 Jul 1895 in Fostina, Hancock County, Ohio,[8] Nathaniel Hiestand signed his last will and testament.[9] In his will, Nathaniel identified the following people, bequeathals, and directives:
Nathaniel Hiestand died on 19 Jul 1895, and he was buried in the Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, Hancock County, Ohio, USA. [1]
The probate of the estate of Nathaniel Hiestand was initiated on 14 Aug 1895 in the Hancock County Court.[8] In that record, there are a number of court orders related to the probate, as well as the Last Will itself. However, the probate records contain only the 1st page of what appears to be a multi-page Last Will. There is an additional transcription of the Last Will that includes Nathaniel's signature and those of the subscribing witnesses.[9]
