James Higdon was born April 15, 1768, in Maryland, a son of Benedict Leonard Higdon and Joanna (Dent) Higdon. In 1802, in Maryland, James married Elizabeth Vinson, born 1774, in Maryland. Children of James and Elizabeth are:

• Augustine Higdon, born July 13, 1803, in St Mary's county, Maryland, died June 24, 1891, in Grayson county, Kentucky, married Teresa Roby

• Thomas Higdon, born 1807, in Grayson county, Kentucky, died 1871, in Grayson county, Kentucky, married Mary Harriet Higdon, daughter of Eleazor Dent Higdon and Teresa/Teraca (?nee), about 1832, in Grayson county, Kentucky

• Lucinda Higdon, born September 17, 1813, died May 6, 1890, married Zachariah Higdon, brother of Mary Higdon, who married her brother, Thomas

James died September 10, 1833, in Grayson county, Kentucky and is buried in the Saint Augustine Cemetery, in Clarkson. ^[1]

According to Mrs. Coone, three Higdons, John, Richard, and Daniel appeared on the records of Virginia and Maryland in the middle of the seventeenth century.
