James was born in Mudford, Somerset and baptised on 12 April 1812 at St Mary, Mudford.[1] He is the son of Joseph Higgins and Mary Pardy.
James married Harriet Hann on 9 December 1833 at St John, Yeovil. The witnesses were Joseph Higgins and Mary Higgins, probably his brother and sister.[2]
In 1841 he was living in Mudford with his wife and two daughters. Also in the household was his aunt Rachel Pardy.[3]
Still in Mudford in 1851 James was work as an agricultural labourer. With him was his wife and three children.[4]
His situation in 1861 was very much the same, with just the two youngest children still at home.[5]
By 1871 it was James, his wife, their 15 year old grandson William Orchard, and a 24 year old boarder, Louisa King.[6]
James died in 1881 in Yeovil district, probably Mudford.[7]
