Biography

Samuel Higgs was born in Cornwall, England.

Samuel Higgs lived in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.

Samuel was born in 1847 in Lanivet and was baptised on 30 December 1847. Samuel is the son of Nicholas Higgs and Jane^[1][2][3][4].

In the 1851 Census the family living at Fenton, Lanivet are William Higgs, his wife Nancy, sons William and Nicholas, daughter-in-law Jane and grandchildren Samuel, Elizabeth and Thomas.

In 1861 they are still living at the farm at Fenton and the family is William Higgs, sons William and Nicholas, daughter-in-law Jane and grandchildren Samuel, Jane, Thomas, William, Nancy and Philip.^[5]

in 1871 the family are at Fenton Pits^[6] and consist of Nicholas, wife Jane and children Samuel, Thomas, William, Nancy, Philip and James.

In 1874 Samuel married Lavinia (Terrell) Higgs^[7]

Sometime around 1877 they emigrated to New Zealand.

Samuel died in 1922.^[8][9] Samuel is buried in Southern Cemetery, Dunedin in the same plot as Lavinia (Terrell) Higgs and three others.^[10]
