Another very old inhabitant of Carcoar, in the person of Mr Charles Henry Higgs, passed over to the great majority on Tuesday morning. The late Mr Higgs has been a resident of the district for over half a century, during which time he was well known and respected by all classes of the community. He was born at Curton Boston (Eng.) 82 years ago, and came to this colony in the early '50's. Shortly after his arrival he joined the mounted police (then known as the Patrol Force) at Cowra, rising to the rank of Senior-Sergeant, which position he held at Carcoar for some time. After leaving the police force he occupied the position of Mining Registrar and District Court Bailiff here for many years. Owing to ill health he was compelled to give up active work about three years ago, and for about two years has been almost wholly confined to his bed, growing gradually worse, until on Tuesday morning be passed peacefully away. He leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters, who have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Wednesday, the remains being interred in the Presbyterian portion of the local cemetery. Rev J. Brotchre conducted the burial service at the graveside.
