WW2: obtained a leg injury during active fighting. Rumour and family memory was of an attack on an (unremembered) French port, possibly St Nazaire in March 1942 . ^[2]

Remembered by Hilder-418 for living in Watford, near the football ground, having an allotment, and that he took after his father being a tall man who enjoyed gardening. Due to the leg injury his walk was laboured.
