When Holden Lafayette Hill was born on January 1, 1835, in Tennessee, his father, William, was 42 and his mother, Jane, was 44. He married Martha Elizabeth Dobbs on January 23, 1856, in Cass, Texas.[1] They had at least four children:

He died as a young father in February 1863 in Texas at the age of 28, and was buried in Cass, Texas.[2]
