Biography
Rebecca was born in 1835 in Ohio, probably in Warren County. She was the daughter of Rev. Joshua Hill and Jane Layman. Her father was a farmer and a Separate Baptist Church preacher. In the 1830s, the family moved to the Salem township in Shelby County, Ohio. In the late 1840s, her family moved west to the Hollis area just south of Peoria in Peoria County, Illinois where Rebecca was living in 1850.
