Biography

Ireland Native
John Hill was born in Ireland.
John was a part-time mill worker.
John Hill died young.

Birth
John HILL was born in 1901 in Drumaness, County Down, Ireland. He was the son of William Hill, a mechanic, and Florence Bain.

His siblings Erwin Hill and Florence Hill were born in 1903 and 1906 respectively.

Death of father
Sadly, John’s father William Hill, died from a "disease of the stomach" in 1907. John was only six years old at the time. His mother was now a widow with three young children.

Second family
In 1910, John’s mother married a fellow widower, Alexander Gabbey, to form a melded family. Alexander had a son named Norman and a daughter named Agnes from a previous marriage. The family moved to Belfast and lived on 12 Pearl Street, 24 Cherryville Street and 30 Barbour Street. His mother would have another daughter named Eleanor May Gabbey in 1912.

John died at age 12.

Death
Tragically, John Hill died from septic meningitis at age 12 in July 1913 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, after an accidental injury to his right eye. His death certificate indicates that he was a part-time mill worker and had been living at 30 Barbour Street, Greencastle, Belfast, at the time of his death. A coroner's inquest was held into his death on the 25th of July 1913 by James Graham coroner for the City of Belfast. This suggests that John's death may have been work-related or the result of an interaction with others (e.g., game, fight, etc.).
