Biography

Nathaniel Hill is a Military Veteran.
Served in the United States Army Air Force 100th Fighter Squadron 1942-1943
Tuskegee Airman flying Ace

Nathaniel was born in 1919 to Josiah Hill and Irene White. [1]The family resided in Washington DC and Nathaniel's father worked as a mechanic.[2] Nathaniel graduated from Armstrong High School in Washington, DC and went on to study at Hampton Institute in Hampton, VA. [3] In Oct 1942, he earned his wings and commission as a 2nd Lieutenant from the Tuskegee Institute. He was part of the 100th Fighter Squadron upon graduation, and, he was sent to Selfridge Field in Michigan for further Flying training. This involved inauguration of a rainy day schedule.

On June 16, Nathaniel was flying a local weather mission from Oscoda Army Air Base in Michigan. With him was 2nd Lt. Luther H. Blakeney, a fellow 100th FSQ officer. Nathaniel became lost and was unable to orient himself when he entered a rapidly forming fog that suddenly extended down to the water. The plane crashed into the water. His body was not located until July 26 in Lake Huron.[4] He was recovered near Oscoda.
