Biography

William was born about 1848, probably in Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of William Hill, a sailor.^[1][2]

He married Mary Dick in 1873 in 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian Church. He was a farmer and both resided in Islandmagee. The witnesses were Alexander Ross and Catherine Dick..^[3]

During the 1901 Census of Ireland, William and Mary were residing in a house 11 in Portmuck (Islandmagee, Antrim) with 4 of their children, Jane age 25, Elizabeth age 20, Mary age 17 and John age 16).^[4][5]

William and Mary were residing in a house 3 in Portmuck (Island Magee, Antrim) during the 1911 Census of Ireland with their daughter Margaret age 33, their Grandson William (age 7, son of Margaret and unrecorded Father), their daughter Elizabeth age 30, and their son John age 26. It was recorded that William and Mary had a total of 6 children with 5 still living at the time of the census.^[6][7]

William passed away in 1923 aged 75 in Portmuck, Islandmagee.^[8][2] There is a grave marker for William in front of his son John (and daughter-in-law Mary Ann, and grandson William's) Gravestone in Ballypriormore Cemetery, in Islandmagee.^[9]
