The funeral of the late Mr. Jesse James Hills, aged 78, who died at his residence in Kawakawa on Tuesday morning, took place at the Kawakawa cemetery on Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Hills who has not been in good health since he was thrown from his horse several, months ago, was born in Kaiapoi, and was the son of the late Mr. William Hills.
On coming to the north many years ago, Mr. Hills purchased property at Pakaru and later acquired further properly at the Whangae where he resided with his wife until it was recently sold.
He was a well-read man and was a keen speculator and stock dealer, having owned property in many parts of New Zealand.[2]
