John, known as Jack, was born on June 19, 1910, in Barking, Greater London, England. He was the son of Harry Hills and Sue Reeves. Jack was baptised at St. Margaret's Church, Barking on August 7, 1910, He served in the Royal Air Force an World War II and married Margaret McQuillan in the Roman Catholic Church at Dagenham in 1943. They did not have any children, but were very devoted to each other. After the war Jack returned to work in the family shop at 61, North Street Barking, but in the late 1950s he and Margaret moved up to Blackpool where they worked with Jack's sister Birdie and her husband in the entertainment and catering business (Bingo and tea bars) Jack was a caller for the bingo and then took over management of the prizes. They eventually bought their own house in Blackpool but never gave up their flat in Wilmington Gardens, Barking, London and spent time there each winter. They were very generous in letting other family members use the flat in the summer months when they were in Blackpool. When they retired they moved back to Barking and bought a house there. Jack died at home in Barking on April 10, 1888. He was cremated at the City of London cemetery, where his ashes were interred.
