Shaler Hillyer was born the 2nd August 1775 in Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.[1]

The following newspaper notice appeared regarding Shaler's authority to collect the taxes: "Pursuant to a resolve of the board of Commissioners for the town of Petersburg, Notice is hereby given, that I shall attend at the post-office on the fourth Monday in September next, for the purpose of receiving a return of all taxable property within the limits of said town. Those concerned will take notice accordingly. Shaler Hillyer G.R.C."[2]

Shaler was in a business partnership with Oliver Whyte in the ownership of a store in Petersburg, Georgia. The business of the store will be continued as usual by Shaler Hillyer."[3]
