The July 1870 Census I found lists Briar, age 28; Carrie, age 22; and Agatha, age 4 months; living with Adam Hill, age 62; John Hill, age 30; and Mary Hill, age 27. Carrie died 5-20-1880; Adam, on 10-22-1882; John on 9-10, 1886, and Mary on 2-21-1916. (All are burried in Davenport).Caroline (Carrie) was born in Grove City, Pa, and came to Davenport with her father, Adam.
Carrie married Briar (Bleigh) on 9-19-1868, in Rock Island, IL. (from marriage License which shows B. L. Hilton and Miss Carrie Hill.) The name "Bleigh" Hilton appears on Agatha's marriage license as her father.
Can't find Hilton, Carrie, or "Aggie," listed in the Davenport City Directories 1870 through 1880.From the Hill adoption records found (for Aggie), it appears that Briar vanished in the early 1880s.
Agatha Hilton married Bismark Beiderbecke and is the mother of the 1920's jazz great, Leon "Bix" Beiderbecke.
Here's Aggie with her uncle's family in 1880 in a Pitts household. Says her mo was b PA and her father NY.
