Biography

John Ludwig (also written as "Ludwick") was born in Dec. 1762, baptised 4 Jan. 1763 (not the 14th, as written in the Vogler-Kaulback document, which seems to have mistaken a comma, in Bell's handwritten notes, for the numeral "1"). He is the son of George Himmelman and Anna-Maria Pentz.

He married Anna Barbara Lohnes & lived at Eastern Passage, near Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The Vogler-Kaulback et al. source (see below) contains no information about their progeny, but gives this comment:

"Through the will of George [Himmelman Jr. - J.deR.], Ludwig and Michael owned the original property at South (=Bayport). Ludwig sold out to Michael and moved to Eastern Passage, outside of Dartmouth, where he went with his brother-in-law, Lawrence Conrad, who had married his sister Elizabeth. 'Tip' Cooper ... visited Eastern Passage in 1987 and found many Himmelman stones in the cemetery there and also a Himmelman Street. Male Himmelmans have apparantly 'died off' or moved on. Some married girls live there."

In the Acknowlegments section of this document, the late Ruth Vogler-Kaulback (d. 1990) explains that Tip Cooper is: "Milton M. Cooper, of Bridgewater. Mr. Cooper, widely known as 'Tip', is a retired CNR man, married to June Himmelman, the youngest daughter of Enos Freeman Himmelman (of John Jacob-2) of Bridgewater. Tip researched the Himmelman genealogy from one end and side of Nova Scotia to the other. His cemetary and obituary records are fabulous. When his genealogy on the Himmelmans is completed it will be a joy to behold! He has helped me considerably in preparing my own family tree as well as with that of June."[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ludwig by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ludwig:
