Biography

He was borin 1887 in Bosion, Massachusetts, the son of Henry Hershey Hinckley and Olive Anna Hinckley.^[1][2][3][4] He passed away in August, 1975 in New York.^[5]

A record from the 1915 New York State Census is possibly for him, living as a roomer in Niagara Falls.^[6]

He married Hortense Rombough Cole in 1915, in New York. Together, they had at least three children.^[7]

He registered for the World War I draft in Niagara Falls on 5 June 1917. This was the first draft, for all men between the ages of 21 and 31. He was living at the time, working for National Carbon Company. He was married with one child at the time, and claimed an exemption because of his involvement with the manufacture of munitions. He described himself as tall, with a heavy build, brown hair and eyes.^[8] No further records of military service were found.

The 1920 US Census shows him living in Niagara Falls, New York with his wife and his two oldest children: ^[9]

The 1930 US Census shows him living in Niagara Falls, NY with his wife and 3 children^[10]; hand-written middle initial appears to have been mis-transcribed as "L."

He studied at MIT from 1908-1909, and worked as chemist for the National Carbon Company in Niagara Falls, NY. He joined The Electrochemical Society in 1912 and was active due to his deep interest in the advancement of electrochemistry and electrothermics. He served on the Board of Directors and was President of the Society from 1923-1924.^[12][13]
