Elias Hinds was born about 1793 in New York .[1]
His wife was Mary Bailey.
There is a Special Commissioner’s Deed dated 1872 in Wayne County which lists the heirs of Elias and Polly Hinds. There are actually two deeds. The first is for land on 12 Pole described as "known as the homestead of Hugh Bailey and conveyed by will to Polly Bailey". The second is for land on Whites Creek surveyed by Elias Hinds for his homestead. Both list married names and husbands. The heirs were: William Hinds, Emeline Russell, Calvin Russell, Clarissa Brumfield, Milton D. Brumfield, Harriet Staley, Joseph W. Staley, Mary Hatten, Edmond Hatten, Sarah Shannon, Harvey Shannon, John Hinds, James Hinds, Lucretia Hinds, Rebecca C. Hinds, Lulue Hinds, Elias Hinds, Merita Hinds, Judson Hinds. The land was sold to the highest bidder and John Harman was the purchaser.[2][3]
Research by Jim Bartholomew Wayne County, Virginia Deed Book A, p 360, dated June 1846. Elias Hinds purchased 80-90 acres on Mill Creek of Sandy River from Edmund, Augusta, and Thomas Damrel, Asa Hatten and Susan his wife, and George Downie by Special Commissioner. Mentions a lawsuit decision May 1846 in Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for Wayne County. Property containing 80 acres located on north side of Mill Creek adjoining Stephen Staly purchased from J.T. Watson and another tract of 90 acres located on the dividing ridge between 12 pole and Sandy formerly owned by J. B. Sharp and sold to Wade Hampton which was first purchased from James T. Watson by Cirus T. Damrel. Deed signed by Spe. Com. James B. Brown for Augustine Damrel, Edmund Damrel, Thomas Damrel, Asa Hatten, George Downie and Susan Hatten. [4]

Wayne County, West Virginia Deed Book C, Page 142, FHL Film 008218902, Image 385. dated 22 Apr 1865 Rebecca C. Hinds to Rosswell Cyrus. Land on White's Creek, owned by Elias Hinds at the time of his death and divided among his heirs. Bordered on the south by Eclatus Johnson.[7]
