Harold Lester Hinds Jr

HINDS, Harold Lester Hinds Jr. Age 74, of Roseburg, passed away on May 11, 1997, at the local VA Medical Center. He was born on April 23, 1923, at Das Arc, Arkansas, to Harold and Edith (James) Hinds, Sr. His parents moved the family to Harve, Montana, when he was of a young age. He was known then as “Mosey” and rode the ranges in the Harve area for a time. When he decided that was not the life he wanted for himself, he joined the Navy in 1943. He served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his discharge, he went to Washington state where he met and married Verna Mae Bitterman in Centrailia, October 3, 1946. They soon moved to Oregon living near Fossil for a time and then at Newport, before settling in the Roseburg area in 1949. Harold was a truck driver and a member of the International Woodworker's Association and the Teamsters Union. Harold's parents preceded him in death. His wife Verna, passed away June 12, 1990. He is survived by: two sons, Terry Hinds of Roseburg, and Timothy and his two children, Harold III and Samantha Mae Hinds; Tanya, Michael and Tianna Coleman all of Reedsport; daughter, Sharon Perry and her children, Arla Pinard of Roseburg and Gary Perry of Glide; sister, Deanie Breiby, affectionately known as “Moochie” and her family of Prescott, Arizona; sister, Susie Bessette and her family of Harve, Montana; brother, Jim Hinds and his family of Bend, Oregon; special friends, Violet Gilbert and Bill and Anita Malfait of Roseburg; and many nieces and nephews. He loved to go hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He enjoyed roaming the desert in later years and fishing in the Snake Rover, although after he became iii, he could not go as often as he wished. He enjoyed going to Montana and Arizona to visit family. Harold fought the battle with cancer for two years before the Lord took him Home early that Sunday morning. Our father, brother, grandfather, uncle and very good friend will be missed so very much. He will always be “Number One” and we wish him Godspeed and peace at last. A memorial service will be held at the VA Medical Center Chapel on June 14, 1997 at 10:00 a.m.
