Research Notes

His father-in-law Elias will mentions 'James Hinds', which may be where the last name of Hinds was introduced

'Marrymiah' is mentioned as wife of James 'Hinds', daughter of Elias Dejarnat in Elias will of Aug 9 1768 [6]

Sarah Hines, daughter of James Hines, married Robert G McAfee in Jasper County Georgia on 22 May 1828. They had 3 children before her death around 1835; about the time of the birth of her third child. Robert G McAfee, "my son-in-law" and "my grandchildren, James Hines McAfee, Matilda McAfee and Jonathan Anderson McAfee, children of my daughter Sarah" are recognized in James Hines' first will, dated 1845.James Hines died in Jasper County Georgia in 1851, and a second will was declared invalid, as he was not competent at the time the second will was signed. Recognized in the first will were James' wife, Mason, 5 sons - John, James, Thomas J, William M, and Littleberry, another son-in-law William H Lovejoy and granddaughter Martha Ann Lovejoy, and Polly Rucker and her sons Martin and Marion. Polly Rucker is not identified as a daughter, and the sons are not identified as grandsons, and her share of the estate was left to her in trust, with John Hines to be trustee. Although I have seen other children listed on the Internet, there are no children named Henry, Martha or Matilda in the will, so if they were James' children, they died before him and left no heirs. James Hines appears to be the son of James Hines, Sr and Marymiah Dejarnette of Greene County, Georgia.James Sr left a will in which he recognized his sons, James, Elias and John, and daughter Elizabeth Williamson, and wife, unnamed. No will has been located for Marymiah. Elias also died in Jasper County in 1823, leavingwife Nancy as administratrix and sons Lamach and Elias, and perhaps a daughter married to T B George. [7]

Children

  1. Elias 1771-1823 born in VA Married Nancy Wilson Hudson
  2. James Jr. 1772-1851 born in VA Married Mason Potter
  3. John 1775 - OCT 1868 born in VA, Amelia Co Married Elizabeth Stoker

Will of linked father Thomas Henderson Hines has information in his profile, mentioning children and grandchildren in 1773. There is no mention of a son James or grandchildren from James; also Thomas and Elizabeth did not live in Amelia, VA.

Conflicting vital information in a merge 1/2023:

  • Born about 1742 in Amelia, Virginia
  • Died about 1807 at about age 65 in Greene, Georgia, United States
  • Born about 1742 in Albemarle County, Colony of Virginia
  • Died about 1800 at about age 58 in Garrard, Kentucky, United States

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Hines-1077 and Hind-299 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same birth year, same wife, same son

Hines-1077 and Hind-299 are not ready to be merged because: Marriage source shows last name is Hines, so wife looks to be a duplicate, but DAR has last name as Hind. Parents are definitely different so that needs to be resolved before merge can continue
