Obituary

EMMA MELVINA PERKINS
BENTON REVIEW MAY 19, 1927
Emma Melvina was the eleventh child of thirteen children of Jacob and Tasa Hinkle. She was born Sept. 22, 1848 at Kingsville Ashtabula County, Ohio, and died after a lingering illness on Saturday May 14, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 22 days. She made her home with her parents until she married to Jacob B. Loyer Sept. 22, 1867 at Springfield in Erie County Pennsylvania. To this union was born two children, one son dying in infancy and Anna who gave her mother such loving care during her last days. The family moved to Michigan where her husband died. She then came to a farm near Kentland to live with her parents who had moved here. She was married to Ira Perkins May 16, 1878 and moved to Raub. This made her the oldest resident of Raub. Mrs. Perkins cared for his four daughters, Dora, Jane, Ella, and Carrie. Five sons were added to this family, Samuel, Emery, Wesley, Warren, and Owen. Samuel and Wesley dying in infancy.
Mr. Perkins died Dec. I, 1899 and since then she with her children have kept their home here. The last few years she made her home with Emery.
Mrs. Perkins was a member of Raub M. E. church and as her health permitted was active in all of its activities. She was ready to help in case of sickness or need.
She leaves to mourn her going her children Mrs. Anna McDaniel, Emery and Warren of Raub, Owen of West Lafayette, also seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Marcella Thornton of Middleon City, Michigan, Mrs. M. J. Wilson of Sheldon Ill. and Mrs. Clara Nace of Brookston, Ind. And a host of friends
Age 2, born in Ohio.
