Biography

• in 1802 paid duties on apprentice (Richard Cliff) indenture; vocation given as joiner; he was living in Chatham, Kent

Joiner: a highly skilled carpenter capable of perfectly joining wood together without the use of nails, screws, glue etc. Commonly worked in the construction or furniture making industries

• in 1836 married for 2nd time (Jane Hanna)
• In 1841 Census is living in Chatham, Kent with Jane Hinkley (Jane Hanna 2nd wife, m. 11 July 1836). Profession given is carpenter.
• Probated will (1848) mentions sons John and Thomas William Willet Hinkley, along with daughters Amelia and "Harriott" Cooper; to Harriet is bequeathed premises 10 and 11 in The Brook, Chatham.

Note 1. A second birth record for Gilbert has same baptism date and parents but different place: Cranbrook, Kent. Last name is spelled "Hinckley."
