Ellen Maria Hinckley was born 22 March 1859 in Georgia, Franklin, Vermont, the daughter of E. F. Hinckley, a blacksmith, and Lydia Buckley, residents of Georgia, Vermont. 
In 1870, the Hinkley family lived in Glover, Vermont. The household included Edward F. Hinkley, 44, a farmer, with $6000 in real estate and $1600 in personal estate; his wife Abigail, 46; Ellen M., 11; Albert F., 7; and Lydia E., 5. The three children were in school. All of the Hinkleys were born in Vermont. Also living with them was Lewis Gilman, 20, a farm laborer, born in Canada. 
Ellen married Sumner W. Bliss. She died, aged 61-62, in 1920, and is buried with her husband in Riverside Cemetery, Swanton, Franklin, Ohio.
