Biography

Born Jul 27 1858, Chatham, North Carolina, son of Ira Hinshaw and Louisa Staley.

He married Sarah Ann Mariah Pickett, Aug 30 1885, Albright Township, Chatham County, North Carolina. Sarah, daughter of William and Betsy Pickett, was born 1860. To this union were born:

  1. Iola G. Hinshaw (1886-1971)
  2. Joseph Harrison Hinshaw (1887-1954)
  3. Flora Alice Hinshaw (1890-1945)
  4. Maude Hinshaw (1893-)
  5. Eva Hinshaw (1895-1895)

Sarah died 1895, buried West Union Cemetery, Monrovia, Monroe Township, Morgan County, Indiana.

He then married Dora Shoffner, Sep 5 1897, Alamance County, North Carolina. Dora, daughter of Jacob Shoffner and Catherine Isley, was born Mar 22 1868, North Carolina. To this union were born:

Wm Hinshaw and Dora Hinshaw, his wife, present certificates of good standing in the churches to which they belong in North Carolina with the request that they and their minor children, Iola, Joda, Alice, Maud and Ira Hinshaw, be joined in membership with Friends.

After deliberation this meeting is united in granting their request and receives them into membership accordingly. Nathan E. Hubbard, Joshua Armstrong, Ruth Ellen Guyer and Lydia Taylor Painter are appointed to inform them thereof and report to next meeting.

Dora died less than a month after the death of her baby twins Everett and Edgar; it is possible that Dora might have died from complications of birth. Dora's death was reported in the "Martinsville Republican" on August 7, 1902.

He then married Mary Ann Payne, Aug 11 1904, Patterson, Alamance County, North Carolina. Mary was born 1860, North Carolina.

At West Union MM on 7 Nov 1907, Mary Hinshaw had been received on a letter from Mt. Pleasant English Lutheran Church, Alamance County, North Carolina.
