Biography

Jesse was born Oct 27 1849, Cherry Grove MM, Randolph County, Indiana.

Jesse was shown age 10 in the 1860 census, Washington Township, Randolph County, Indiana.

He married Amanda Jane Jones [Jennie Jones]. Amanda, daughter of John Jones and Sarah Overman, was born Sep 13 1852.

Pipe Creek MM, on 8-5-1871, recorded "Amanda J. Hinshaw (formerly Jones) wishes to retain her membership."

At Pipe Creek MM on 9-2-1871, Amanda was granted a certificate to Cherry Grove MM, Indiana.

At Cherry Grove MM on 10-14-1871, Amanda L. [sic] was received on a certificate from Pipe Creek MM.

At Cherry Grove MM on 11-11-1871, Jesse, Lynn meeting, was reported married contrary to discipline - membership retained.

At Cherry Grove MM on 8-10-1872, Jesse requested a certificate to Sugar Creek MM. On 9-13-1873, Jesse and Amanda were granted a certificate to Sugar Creek MM.

Cherry Grove MM on 2-13-1875 recorded "Jesse Hinshaw: Pipe Creek requested this to treat with him 'for with-holding a debt'; 5-13-1876 he denies the charge; Pipe Creek MM informed".

At Pipe Creek MM on 11-1-1873, Jesse and wife Amanda Jane and infant daughter were received on a certificate from Cherry Grove MM.

At Pipe Creek MM on 6-2-1877, Jesse and family were granted a certificate to Cherry Grove MM.

At Cherry Grove MM on 6-9-1877, Jesse and wife Jennie & family were received on a certificate from Pipe Creek MM.

At Cherry Grove MM on 4-10-1880, Jesse and family were granted a certificate to Pipe Creek MM.

At Pipe Creek MM on 5-1-1880, Jesse, wife Jennie, and daughter Gertrude, were received on a certificate from Cherry Grove MM.

Amanda died Jun 1 1880.

At Pipe Creek MM on 6-1-1895, daughter Gertrude was received on a letter from First Congregational Church, Amboy, Indiana.

At Pipe Creek MM on 5 Feb1898, wife Adda was received on a letter from Congregational Church, Amboy, Indiana.

At Pipe Creek MM on 07 July 1900, Jesse was "received by request".

It appears as though they did not like the First Congregational Church! At Pipe Creek MM on 21 April 1917, Jesse and Ada were granted a letter to Evangelical Assoc at Culver, Indiana.
