Abijah was born Jan 23 1812 Randolph County, North Carolina. He is the son of Ezra Hinshaw and Phebe Hobson.
At Cane Creek MM, on 5-7-1814, Abijah & his brother Reuben were "received by request" of their father, Ezra.
On May 1 1839 Abijah purchased 80 acres of land in Cass County, Michigan.
He married Elizabeth Jones, Jan 2 1840, Cass County, Michigan.
At Mississinewa MM (Indiana) on 12-18-1840, Abijah was disowned for his marriage contrary to discipline.
Elizabeth died childless about a year after their marriage.
He then married Hannah Traverse, Sep 1 1842, Porter Township, Cass County, Michigan. Hannah, daughter of Robert Traverse and Lavinia Camp, was born Dec 1 1822, Ohio.
Hannah was the sister of John Traverse, who married Abijah's sister Lydia.

Hannah died Jun 12 1869, Penn Township, Cass County, Michigan; age 46. Medical: Hannah died from consumption.
He then married Susanna Mourer Crook, Dec - 1869. Susanna was born Apr 13 1832, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Susanah had been previously married to William A. Crook, by whom she had two children, Harmon W. Crook and Bell (Crook) Alexander.

On Jan 14 1878, "Susannah Hinshaw and Abijah her husband of Cass County in the state of Michigan" sold, through a quit-claim deed, 30 acres of land in Fairfield Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. The price was $45.71; sold to Jacob Rice.
Abijah Hinshaw died Jul 10 1878, Cass County, Michigan; buried Young's Prairie Cemetery, near Penn, Cass County, Michigan. Medical: Abijah died from lung disease.
Abijah's obituary was published in the Cassopolis (Michigan) "Vigilant" on Jun 19 1879:
Abijah Hinshaw, of Penn, was born in Randolph county, N.C., January 3rd, 1812. He was brought by his parents to Preble county, Ohio, and there remained about one year, when Abijah and Reuben came on to Michigan and settled on the north side of Young’s Prairie in 1830. He married his first wife, Elizabeth Jones, a sister of Mrs. John Nixon, January 2nd, 1840, and she died childless about a year later. September 1st, 1842, he was married to Hannah Traverse, by Milo Powell, a Cass county pioneer, and to them was born five children, all girls; the eldest died in infancy, the next married Jas. H. Stamp, our popular and efficient sheriff; the next was the first wife of Martin Stamp, and the next is the wife of Joshua Johnson, and the youngest is Mrs. Rollin Alexander, the last two only are living. Mrs. Hannah Hinshaw died June, 1869, and about a year after he married Mrs. Crook, who now survives. Mr. Hinshaw died greatly respected, July 10th, 1878, in his 66th year.
