Biography
Lucy Hinshaw was born on Oct. 14, 1827 in North Carolina. She was married to Andrew Jackson Essex. Their marriage license was issued on March 23, 1854 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. Lucy is listed in the 1850 census as living with her parents in Forsyth County, North Carolina. After her marriage she relocated with her husband Andrew to Indiana. Records show several of the Hinshaws moved westward to this area. Lucy is listed in the 1860 and 1880 census as living in Haw Creek and Harrison in Bartholomew County, Indiana. Lucy's death was on Sept. 17, 1891. Burial at Moravian Cemetery, Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana.

- NOTE** On grave bio. she is listed as Lucy Pedicord Essex. The only reason I can think of the Pedicord name for Lucy is that in the 1880 census a niece named Lucy Pedicord was living in their household. From this it may be the reason of the mix up. If any other information about the Pedicord name is found for Lucy I will update this profile. On the grave Lucy L. Essex is engraved.
