Jesse was born Jul 13 1848, Henry County, Indiana, son of John Hinshaw and Anna Ratliff.

He married Josephene Boyle, Dec 21 1871, Henry County, Indiana. Josephene, daughter of P.J.F.Boyle and Nancy Byrket, was born Nov 20 1851, Indiana.

Josephine was Jesse's step-sister. Josephine was the daughter of Nancy Byrket Boyle, who had married Jesse's father in 1864.
