Biography

Stephen was born 03 July 1803, son of Thomas Hinshaw and Rebecca Holliday.

Stephen married Gulia Elma Maria Hoover, Nov 22 1826, Randolph County, North Carolina. Gulia, daughter of John Hoover and Millicent Winslow was born 23 Nov 1806, Randolph County, North Carolina. To this union were born:

  2. Andrew Hinshaw 1829 - 1911
  3. John Sidney Hinshaw 1830 - 1916
  4. Thomas Hinshaw 1832 - 1872

A marriage bond was recorded for Stephen Hinshaw and Greta L. Maria Hoover on November 20, 1826, Randolph County, North Carolina.

At Back Creek MM (N.C.) on 31 Jan 1827, Gulielma Maria was disowned for her marriage out of unity.

A Bastardy Bond was recorded May 2 1827 in North Carolina for the birth of a bastard son of Elizabeth Wall. The bond named Stephen Hinshaw as the baby's father. Elizabeth Wall (b. 1804) was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Wall, who lived next door to Stephen's parents. The dates seem to indicate that this child was conceived just prior to Stephen's marriage to Gulielma.

Stephen and family were shown in the 1850 census, Clay Township, Hamilton County, Indiana, as follows:
