Biography

Johann or August was born in Germany on 5 March 1822. (Find a Grave, no image of the headstone was provided.) ^[1]

Johann married Dorothea Henriette Orlandt on 9 February 1848 at the Evangelische Kirche ^[2] Friedheim, Wirsitz, Germany. ^[3][4] They appear to have had only one child.

Johann married Carolina Pahl in Germany, probably before August of 1858 when their eldest living child, Augusta Hinz (Muth) was born.

1860 U.S. Census, Milwaukee Ward 9, Milwaukee, Wisconsin:
August Hinz, age 39, carpenter, personal estate $100, born in Prussia, living with Carolina Hinz, and one child, Emelia Hinz. ^[5]

Lived in Franklin, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin when their sons Richard (December 1860 ^[6]) and Wilhelm Hinz (January 1866 ^[7]) were born.

1870 U.S. Census, Wauwatosa, Milwaukee, Wisconsin:
John Hinz, age 48, laborer, personal estate of $150, parents foreign born, living with Friederike Hinz, female, age 45, Wilhelmine, female, age 10, and Ferdinand, age 4, all born in Prussia. ^[8]

Johann died on 13 November 1873 and was buried at Saint Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Greendale, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. (Find a Grave - no image of the headstone was provided.) ^[1]
