Maurice de Hirsch was born Moritz von Hirsch auf Gereuth on December 9, 1831 in Munich, Bavaria. His parents were Baron Joseph von Hirsch auf Gereuth and Caroline Wertheimer.[1]
Maurice was a banker, and financed European railways. He was a philanthropist, and founded the Jewish Colonization Association.
He is buried at a family mausoleum at Montmartre, in Paris, France. [2]
