He used the HITCHCOCK surname until 1874 when he changed his surname to DeGACHER, as did his brother, Captain William DeGACHER, who was killed at Isandhlwana.
1877/08/09 He received a South Africa Medal with Clasp.
In 1879 he honorably served in Africa during the Anglo-Zulu War, a war fought between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom.
1880/07/09 At Knightsbridge, London, England he married Eleanor Maud HARTER of Cronfield Court, Bedfordshire, England & they resided at Canterbury. Kent, England where he served as a Justice of the Peace.
He spent his life in exemplary military service on behalf of Britain.
1893/05/93 Major General DeGACHER retired.
Died 26th November 1902 at Canterbury, Kent, England and was buried at Canterbury Cathedral[1]
