Biography

Oliver was born in 1840 to William Jewett and Rachell (Lander) Hitt. The 1890 Veteran’s Census indicates he suffered from a gunshot wound to the body during the Civil War and that is noted as his direct cause of death.

Enlisted in Company E of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 1862-Aug-7 at age 22 as Private. He was wounded at the Battle of Perryville on 1862-Oct-8. He was discharged on 1862-Dec-19 at Louisville, Kentucky for disability from his wounds. [1]
