Biography

Elizabeth Hitt was born 25 Dec 1748. She was one of twelve children of Harmon Hitt and Mary Ann Weaver.

She married Jacob Rector on November 22, 1769 in Germantown, Virginia[1][2] Shows Jacob Rector marriage to Elizabeth Hitt. Both born in Virginia, him in 1745 and Elizabeth in 1748.

Elizabeth Rector as head of household between 1810 and 1830 living in Fauquier, Virginia.

She passed away on 30 Aug 1832. According to Chancery Case 1855-003, Her death date was August 28, 1832. Does anyone have a source for the August 30, 1832 date?

Jacob Rector Probate

Fauquier County, Virginia Court Order Book 1793-1795, page 391, June 1795 Court[3] On the motion of Elizabeth Rector who made oath together with Benjamin Hitt and Charles Ayers her securities entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of one thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs. Certificate is granted her for obtaining letters of Administration to the estate of Jacob Rector deceased.

GERMANNA RECORD NO. 1, Hitt, Martin, Weaver, pg 31[8]:

Elizabeth Hitt b. Dec. 25, 1748, m. Jacob Rector. Jacob Rector was the son of John Rector (b. 1711, d. 1772) and his wife Anna Catherine Fishback; grandson of John Jacob Rector and his wife Elizabeth Fishback, and of John Fishback and his wife Agnes Haegar, all 1714 immigrants.

Note the entry in GERMANNA RECORD NO 1 is an error that was corrected in GERMANNA RECORD NO 4. The Jacob that was son of John and Anna Catherine (Fishback) Rector died in Bedford County, Virginia in 1779 and left a will there, he married a woman named Jane.

GERMANNA RECORD NO 4, John Jacob Rector - 1714 Germanna Colonist, page 50[9] Jacob Rector, like his brother John was born about 1743-1747 and was either the eldest or next eldest son of Henry Rector, Sr and his wife Anne. He died in Fauquier County in 1795.

John Scott, Judge of the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery, for the county of Fauquier, respectfully show unto the court, your orators and oratrixis, Thomas Rector, Vincent Rector William Triplett and Dorcas Triplett his wife, Joseph McMorris and Winifred his wife, that Elizabeth Rector, died on or about the 28th day of August 1832, leaving the said Thomas, Vincent, Winifred, and Mary Miller wife of George Miller, and Susanna Miller, and Joseph Rector, her children and heirs at law, that at the time of her death she was possessed of sundry slaves, and horses, cattle, sheep, hogs, and various other kinds and utensils of person has party, that on the 25th day of August 1824 a will a copy of which is here to annex marked as A came purporting to be hers was made...

Will of Elizabeth Rector, Fauquier County, Virginia Chancery Case, 1855-003[12] In the name of God Amen, I, Elizabeth Rector relict of Jacob Rector of the county Fauquier and state of Virginia do make and ordain this as my last will and testament hereby revoking all others. It is my will that my black woman Milly shall be free at anytime she pleases and that my yellow woman Hannah shall be free immediately at my decease, and all her children vis - James, Franklin, Caroline, Matilda, and Susan Malinda and her descendants shall be free the males at the age of twenty five years and the females at the age of twenty two years. In as much as my son Joseph Rector will have the tranble? and expense of raising these children and that I have and will intend to continue to live with him without any charge to my other children. It is my will that the said Joseph Rector and his heirs shall have the sole benefit and use of the said children during the time of their servitude. It is my will that all the rest of my property consisting of some horses, cattle, sheep and hogs with some household furniture that I may be possessed of at my decease, may be equally divided(in value or otherwise) between my sons Thomas Rector and Vincent Rector, and my daughter Dorcase Triplett, with the exception of one feather bed with its ordinary furniture, I will and bequeath to my grand daughter, Susan Jane Hitt Rector. I do herby appoint my brother Benjamin Hitt and my son Joseph Rector sole executor of this my last will and testament, charging them punctually to execute it agreeably to the wish of the testator. Given from under my hand and seal this twenty-fifth day of August in the year of our Lord 1824. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of John Hall Senr and James Morrison. Hitt-61 and Hitt-66 appear to represent the same person because: Two Elizabeth Hitts married to the same person. Neither profile has sources. Hitt-66 DoB is a GUESS. All available information indicates these are the same person.
