Biography

On 13 Mar 1773 in Bedford County, Virginia, Samuel Huff (about 1750 place unknown – after 1820 / unknown, possibly Marion County, Illinois) married Sarah Hix (about 1755 – about or after 1800?, probably Jackson County, Tennessee). Sarah was the daughter of John Hix, as specified in the marriage record. John Hix gave consent and Peter Huff was surety.[1] That one Peter Huff served as surety would indicate a close relationship, although not necessarily that of father and son, unless such was specifically noted in the surety statement or other record that may be available. If a primary source record(s) have been located, please bring it forward, there presently being merely a record as indexed in a secondary source.

She was divorced several times (she is said to have 4 divorce certificates).[2] This was alleged on previous version of this profile, but absent sources to substantiate the notion, it seems implausible.

Can someone provide, does anyone have information that is documented by primary or authoritative sources? While it's all interesting to compare others' undocumented family trees, what too often occurs is that poor information got "out there" at some point, and then others simply copied it. A consensus of misinformation, as it were. How does that adage go?... a Family Tree without sources, is just gossip. And every time it gets repeated, is subject to ever-increasing additional mis-statement or errors creeping in.

So below is some of the may-be gossipy comparisions? that have appeared in this profile during 2010-2019 etc. Maybe it should simply all be disregarded as unsupported, and reference made to what appears to be much better thought-out information appearing on the profile of Sarah (Hix) Huff's spouse, Samuel Huff.

Altogether she is said to have borne fifteen children, including the following: [no source(s) provided]
  1. Elizabeth Huff
  2. Frances Huff
  3. John Huff,
  4. Nancy Huff
  5. Richard Huff
  6. Rachel (Huff) Hays
  7. Samuel Huff, Samuel Huff Jr.
  8. Leonard Huff
  9. William Huff, William Nathan Huff
  10. Leonard Huff
  11. Sarah (Huff) Denton
  12. Tabitha Huff
In c1800, when she was in her mid-forties, Sarah died of unknown causes in Tennessee.

The wrong John Hix is attached as her parents. John and Sibiller Hix of Campbell County VA had a daughter Sarah but this is not her. Many will and land records for John and Sibiller exist which clearly define their family. This Sarah Hix Huff e will be disconnected from them.
Profile seems like might benefit from a clean-up and update. It kinda doesn't make sense. I'm not a Hix specialist, that seems to be what's needed, someone who is knowlegable about the individual, and who has actual primary (or authoritative!) source citations!!

I have my own mini-summary:

Sarah's years of birth are unknown and have been estimated. Her places of birth and death remain unknown. She may have been born in Virginia and possibly died in Tennessee.

On 13 Mar 1773 in Bedford County, VA, Samuel Huff married Sarah Hix, daughter of John Hix. Peter Huff was surety. --Source: [Marriage record indexed in] Encyclopedia of American Quaker genealogy, vol. 6, p. 937. This does not mean that Samuel or Sarah were Quaker; non-Quaker marriages that had occurred in Bedford Co. were also indexed along with Quaker marriages.

Sooooo... if Sarah was supposed to be the daughter of John Hix per the marriage record--so, like, documented--what other record says the father was a Henry? :-) I mean, a "real" source. Which, of course we know, does NOT mean somebody's undocumented family tree, that they copied from somebody else, who copied from... well, you know how that goes! Anyone have some to cover some of this?

Plus... it would seem remarkable for her to have had all those Huff children (12 listed in this profile...are they all really hers? at least one looks real questionable), and also have been divorced 4 times, like it alleges in the profile bio section. When would she have had the time?!

Hix-613 and Hix-5 appear to represent the same person because: Husband is Hix
Hix-335 and Hix-5 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same dob, same spouse

Tn as place of birth is probably wrong as Wikipedia says the first British settlement in Tennessee was in 1756.
