Newton was born in 1845.[1] His stepfather was William Rogers.[2]
Newton fought with the Union forces in the US Civil War, serving with the 8th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry.[3][4]
N J Hixon and Mathilda Jane Tapp married November 4, 1865, in Wayne County, Kentucky.[5] In 1870 they were farming in Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky[6] In 1880 they were farming in Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Kentucky.[7] In 1900 they lived in Rowland town, Lincoln County, Kentucky, and Newton was a carpenter.[8]
N. J. Hixson died suddenly Wednesday, May 26, 1909, while working as a carpenter for the L & N Railroad at Loretto, Marion County, Kentucky.[9]
