Johan Hjort is Notable.

Norwegian doctor, ophthalmologist, & Professor of medicine, known for being the first person to perform brain surgery in Norway.

Johan Storm Aubert Hjort (born 10 April 1835 in Kristiania, died 6 March 1905 in the same city) was the first Norwegian to conduct brain surgery. He was an ophthalmologist and professor of medicine. He was the son of military physician Jens Johan Hjort (1798 - 1873) and Louise Augusta Petersen (1798 - 1837).

After earning his examen artium in 1853 and his doctorate in medicine in 1861 from the Royal Frederiks University, he served as a volunteer military doctor in Denmark during the Second Schleswig War in 1864. Hjort studied at Vienna, Venice, Dresden, Berlin, Paris, and London between 1865 and 1866, worked as a reserve physician at the Rikshospitalet between 1867 and 1870, and served as a military physician in Kristiania and Bergen. In 1873, he competed with Jacob Munch Heiberg for the professorship in ocular surgery vacated by Christen Heiberg and won. He was elected to the Norwegian Academy of Sciences in 1878, served as president of the Norwegian Medical Society from 1883 to 1884, and was knighted in the Order of St. Olav's first class in 1891. In 1889, he performed the first brain surgery performed in Norway. A few years later, he withdrew after his hand began to quiver.

Other than that, he was a close friend of Halfdan Kjerulf and began singing in his quartet in 1857.

Johan Storm Aubert married Johanne Elisabeth Falsen (1849 - 1922) on 21 Mar 1868 in Christiania. ^[1]

One son was Johan (Hjorth) Hjort (1869 - 1948), Marine biologist.

In the 1891 census Johan was the head of household in Kristiania, Kristiania, Gamle Aker, Oslo, Norge (Norway).^[2]

In the 1900 census Johan was the head of household at 1 Josefines Gade 20 0025, 01, Kristiania, Oslo, Norge (Norway).^[3]

Johan Storm Aubert died on Mar 6, 1905 in Kristiania aged 69.^[4]
