Biography

Name

Na-xee-sheb-ga is a lightly corrupted compound of two names: Naxi (more formally, Naxiga), and Šepka. Naxi is a birth order name for the fourth son. Šepka, from šep, a variant of sep, meaning, "dark, black"; and -ka, a definite article used in personal names. So the names mean, "Fourth-Born Son, The Black." A variant of this name, Sepjįga, "Very Black" is a Bear Clan name.

Lineage

“Rasdell also states that White Breast had a younger brother called Na-xee-sheb-ga who was the father of John Brown whose children are now living in Nebraska.” (Jipson, 235)
