Biography

Moses was a Friend (Quaker)

Moses was born 5 May 1716 in Newbury, Massachusetts.[1] He was the son of Jonathan and Margaret Hoag.[1]

He married Patience Yell, daughter of Benjamin Hoag, on 13 Mar 1745 at Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[2] Moses and Patience were first cousins.

Moses and Patience were Quakers who moved to Duchess County, NY. The following is an excerpt from Settlers of Beekman Patent.[3]

On 28 April 1787 Moses Hoag Sr., yeoman of Washington, and Patience gave a mortgage of £17 to Joseph S. Mabbett on 1 acre of land that bounded David Husted, a highway and Benjamin Mosher. He was probably the man in Washington Town, DC in 1790 at 2-1-2 between Consider Merritt and Benjamin Mosher. Moses Hoag was listed on an account book of Malcolm Morrison ca. 1775. He owed £1/10/5.

Note: This particular Moses did not marry Alice Tripp. His brother-in-law Moses Tripp b 1723 (Patience's brother) married Sarah Elliot 1747 then married Alice Tripp Dec 14, 1758 (marriage intention Oct 14, 1758).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Moses by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Moses:

Hoag-829 and Hoag-56 appear to represent the same person because: Hoag-829 & Hoag-56 are the same person.

Moses Hoag b1716 and Patience Hoag b1719 are my 5th great grandparents. Parents to Nathan (Hoag) Hoeg. Nathan was a loyalist and escaped into Canada via Ontario. Settled in Nova Scotia. Changed his last name from Hoag to HOEG and how it's pronounced.
