Robert was born about 1721. He passed away in 1798.
Robert Hoge, b. 1721 in Scotland has been identified in the International Hogg DNA Project as belonging to "Cluster 11" . Cluster 11 Hoggs all match each other, but not the other distinct dna lines of Hoggs, Hoge, Hogue, Hogge, Haig, Church, Hardin, Hillhouse, etc Robert married Letitia McCullough in 1750 in Valley, Pennsylvania. They had eight children in 15 years. He died on January 28, 1798, in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 76 years, and was buried in Spruce Hill, Pennsylvania.
Robert Hoge, born November 1721, a native of South Scotland, emigrated in early life to County Down, Province of Ulster, Ireland. He came to America in 1752. In the spring of 1754 he located on a tract of land in the Tuscarora Valley, then in Cumberland County, Province of Pennsylvania. In June 1756, owing to the Indian incursions upon the Juniata, Mr. Hoge fled with his little family to Carlisle, returning only in the fall of that year.
There is a story that, at the time of the taking of Bigham's Fort, [by the French and their native allies in 1756] Robert and Letitia were taking some goods across the mountain on a cow, and were seen by the Indians, who let them pass, because they did not wish just then to alarm the fort.
On two other occasions did this early pioneer seek safety in the then principal place of refuge west of the Susquehanna. He died on his plantation the 25th of January. 1798, aged eighty years.[1] His wife, Letitia, born June 1724 in the north of Ireland; d. March 8, 1812, in Juniata County, Penn. and with her husband buried in what is now known as the "McKee graveyard."
Robert Hogg's will is on file at Lewistown, Pa. It mentions wife Letitia, son James, daughters Ina, Sarah, Jane Robinson, Martha and Mary McKee, grandchildren Letitia McCullough and Ann McCullough; Robert, George and Jane Graham, Robert Hogg, James Irwin Hogg.
The original manuscript was purchased from Miss Catherine I. Egle by Leonard Lytle of Detroit, Mich., and this copy, with additional matter, made by him in August, 1921. "I visited the McKee Graveyard in July, 1921, and found it overgrown with vines and bushes. The stones are in fair condition. I set down the following inscriptions. One or two graves appeared to be marked with field stones. There was one fragment of a red grave stone but I could not make out the words." --Leonard Lytle of Detroit MI
