He died there on January 24, 1777 at the age of 38. He is buried at Mount Zion Cemetery in Whitman, MA.
Probate
John Hobart of Abington,yeoman died intestate and on 10 March 1777, Samuel Allen of Bridgewater was granted the administration of his estate.[4]
His inventory was taken in March 1777 in Abington.[5]
In 1777, his widow Molly was appointed guardian of his minor children, Jacob Hobart (age four years), John Hobart (9 years old), and Molly Hobart (age four years).[6]
In 1779, land that he and his brother Aaron had purchased from their brother was divided by the probate court.[7] An account of his estate by Samuel Allen was recorded which included debts paid, a cow that died, provisions for the family, gravestones for the deceased and child, and administration fees.[8]
In 1779, the widow of John Hobart, now Molly Bearce presented an account of guardianship to the children, John, Molly, and Jacob.[9]
In 1779, his real estate was set out to his widow, now Molly Bearce, as her dower.[10]
In 1779, David Kingman was appointed guardian of his minor children, Jacob Hobart, age 5 years, Molly Hobart, age 2 years, and John Hobart, age 11 years. [11] In 1782, an account of his heirs' guardianship by David Kingman was recorded.[12][13] In 1784, David Kingman asked to be released from his duties as guardian to the children of John Hobart.[14]
In 1784, Aaron Hobart of Abington was appointed guardian of his minor children Jacob Hobart, and Molly Hobart.[15] His son John, above the age of 14 years made the choice of Aaron Hobart of Abington to be his guardian also.[16] In 1789, an account of the children's guardianship by Aaron Hobart was recorded.[17]
In 1788, Nathan Dawes of Bridgewater was appointed guardian of his minor daughter Molly, under the age of 14 years.[18]
In 1789, his son Jacob, above the age of 14, made the choice of Nathan Dawes of Bridgewater to be his guardian.[19] A controversy arose between David Kingsman and his son, John Hobart, now of lawful age, in which John Hobart received one-third of the property in question, and the guardian of the other children, Jacob and Molly received one-third.[20]
In 1794, his estate was set out to John Hobart (eldest son), Jacob Hobart, Molly Hobart, and Huldah Hobart (who had since died and was to be divided equally).[21]
