Probate

John Hobart of Abington, yeoman died intestate and on 10 March 1777, Samuel Allen of Bridgewater was granted the administration of his estate.[4]

His inventory was taken in March 1777 in Abington.[5]

In 1777, his widow Molly was appointed guardian of his minor children, Jacob Hobart (age four years), John Hobart (9 years old), and Molly Hobart (age four years).[6]

In 1779, land that he and his brother Aaron had purchased from their brother was divided by the probate court.[7] An account of his estate by Samuel Allen was recorded which included debts paid, a cow that died, provisions for the family, gravestones for the deceased and child, and administration fees.[8]

In 1779, the widow of John Hobart, now Molly Bearce presented an account of guardianship to the children, John, Molly, and Jacob.[9]

In 1779, his real estate was set out to his widow, now Molly Bearce, as her dower.[10]

In 1779, David Kingman was appointed guardian of his minor children, Jacob Hobart, age 5 years, Molly Hobart, age 2 years, and John Hobart, age 11 years. [11] In 1782, an account of his heirs' guardianship by David Kingman was recorded.[12][13] In 1784, David Kingman asked to be released from his duties as guardian to the children of John Hobart.[14]

In 1784, Aaron Hobart of Abington was appointed guardian of his minor children Jacob Hobart, and Molly Hobart.[15] His son John, above the age of 14 years made the choice of Aaron Hobart of Abington to be his guardian also.[16] In 1789, an account of the children's guardianship by Aaron Hobart was recorded.[17]

In 1788, Nathan Dawes of Bridgewater was appointed guardian of his minor daughter Molly, under the age of 14 years.[18]

In 1789, his son Jacob, above the age of 14, made the choice of Nathan Dawes of Bridgewater to be his guardian.[19] A controversy arose between David Kingsman and his son, John Hobart, now of lawful age, in which John Hobart received one-third of the property in question, and the guardian of the other children, Jacob and Molly received one-third.[20]

In 1794, his estate was set out to John Hobart (eldest son), Jacob Hobart, Molly Hobart, and Huldah Hobart (who had since died and was to be divided equally).[21]
