DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
Thomas GRONO was appointed Postmaster, when Pitt Town Post Office opened on 1st February 1859. He had previously carried out these duties in an honorary capacity. Joseph Hobbs was appointed Postmaster from 1st March 1894. Hobbs widow Eliza became postmistress on his death on 6 May 1898 & her daughter Lucy succeeded her. page 20 A history of early Pitt Town by Rex Stubbs note Rex has incorrectly identified Elizabeth the wife of another Joseph Hobbs (Hobbs-3602). Eliza is the correct spouse
Joseph Hobbs (son of Robert Hobbs Jnr & Sarah Wright) was appointed postmaster at Pitt Town on 1st March 1864. I agree that Rex Stubbs incorrectly identified the wife of Robert Hobbs. Joseph first married Sophia Smith nee Fitzgerald. He then married Eliza Agnes Lillywhite. Eliza was appointed as postmistress at Pitt Town on 6 May 1899. Their daughter Lucy took over as postmistress on 20 November 1900 (taken from the official Pitt Town Post Office records).
