Biography

  • 1851 England and Wales Census

Charles was born about 1818 to Benjamin and Hannah Hobbs[1]. He married Jane Godden in 1844.

Jane gave birth to a daughter on September 24, 1844. She was christened Elizabeth Hobbs on November 10, 1844.[2]

Jane gave birth to a daughter on October 18, 1845. She was christened Emma Hobbs on December 25, 1845.[3]

Jane gave birth to a daughter on March 10, 1847. She was christened Eliza Jane Hobbs on May 23, 1847.[4]

Jane gave birth to a daughter on March 24, 1850.[5]

Charles and Jane's four year old daughter, Emma, died on May 29, 1850.[6] They christened their fourteen-month-old daughter Emma on June 8, 1851.[7]

The 1851 England and Wales Census lists Charles as a 33 year old married man living with his wife and four children in Market Lavington. His occupation is listed as Gardener & Groom.[8]

Jane gave birth to a son on April 6, 1853. He was christened Charles Benjamin Hobbs on May 15, 1853.[9]

Jane gave birth to a son on September 30, 1855. He was christened James Hobbs on October 28, 1855.[10]

Jane gave birth to a daughter on October 26, 1860. She was christened Anne Hobbs on November 25, 1860.[11]

The 1861 England and Wales Census lists Charles as a 43 year old married man living with his wife and five children in Market Lavington. His occupation is listed as Agricultural Labourer.[12]

The 1871 England and Wales Census lists Charles as a 53 year old married man living with his wife, four children, a granddaughter, and an infant of unknown relation in Market Lavington. His occupation is listed as Agricultural Labourer.[13]

The 1881 England and Wales Census lists Charles as a 63 year old married man living with his wife, an adult daughter, and a granddaughter in Market Lavington. His occupation is listed as Groom & Gardener.[14]

Charles passed away about 1893.
