Charles was born about 1818 to Benjamin and Hannah Hobbs^[1]. He married Jane Godden in 1844.

Jane gave birth to a daughter on September 24, 1844. She was christened Elizabeth Hobbs on November 10, 1844.^[2]

Jane gave birth to a daughter on October 18, 1845. She was christened Emma Hobbs on December 25, 1845.^[3]

Jane gave birth to a daughter on March 10, 1847. She was christened Eliza Jane Hobbs on May 23, 1847.^[4]

Jane gave birth to a daughter on March 24, 1850.^[5]

Charles and Jane's four year old daughter, Emma, died on May 29, 1850.^[6] They christened their fourteen-month-old daughter Emma on June 8, 1851.^[7]
