Biography

Reuben Hoben was born circa 1821[1] [2], the son of Reuben Hoben and Rebecca Hume of Swan Creek, New Brunswick[3]

On October 26, 1847, he married Elizabeth Curry, daughter of John Curry and Anna Upton, and granddaughter of David Currie[3], and their children included[1] [2]:

  1. Arianna Florence, born 29 August 1847[4], who married Cyrus A. Burpee on March 4, 1870[5] [6]
  2. Idella Cecelia, born October 18, 1851[1], who married Henry Albert Estabrooks, son of Stephen Potter Estabrooks and Elizabeth Estabrooks[7], and who died in 1928[8],
  3. John Frederick, born January 1850[1] [2], who married Rebecca Coy, daughter of Joseph Coy and Harriet Whitehead[9], and who died in 1925[10]
  4. Reuben Henry, born December 30, 1853[1] [2], who married Alice Ellen MacDonald in 1904[11], and who died in 1937[12]
  5. George William, born circa 1857[1] [2] , unmarried, who was a druggist in Saint John when he died in 1904[13]
  6. Henrietta Rebecca; born August 5, 1859[1] [2] , who married Leander M. Estabrooks, a riverboat Captain, and son of William Wilmot Estabrooks and Nancy Jane Coy, and who died in 1944[14]
  7. Elizabeth Lavina, born August 6,1862[1] [2], who married George H. Clowes [15] and who died in 1937[16]

He was a farmer[2], a Justice of the Peace, a magistrate and a Lieutenant Colonel in the militia[17] [18]

Lt Col Reuben Hoben died April 18, 1877[19], and is buried in the Upper Gagetown Cemetery[20]
