Biography

On January 25, 1958, Jack was appointed as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Matthew M. Neely and served until November 4, 1958. His bid for re-election failed and he returned to his business interests.

He graduated from the University of West Virginia in 1934 and then was involved in the insurance, real estate, construction and banking businesses. He was a member on the board of governors of West Virginia University, (1937-42) and served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Naval Reserve, during World War II.

In the 1920 census John (age 7) was the son of J. "Demp" Hoblitzell in Wood County, West Virginia, United States.[2]

In the 1930 census John (age 17) was the single son of John D. Hobbitzell in Parkersburg, Wood, West Virginia, United States.[3]

In the 1940 census John (age 27) was the single head of household in Williams Magisterial District, Wood, West Virginia, United States.[4]

In the 1950 census John (age 37) was the married head of household in Vienna, Wood, West Virginia, United States. He was employed as a Real Estate appraiser for an insurance company.[5]

John died on 6 January 1962 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia. His death was due to a heart attack at 49 years of age.[6] He is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia.[7]
