Sir Thomas Hoby (d. 1566) had three brothers, one of whom, Richard Hoby, apparently had a son, Richard Hoby, who survived his father by only three years.
Photos of the monument to Richard Hoby of Badsey are available at badsey.net. "The memorial is misleading as it suggests Richard Hoby had no children of his own."
"In 1598 the manor of Badsey passed from Richard [Griffin] and Margaret [Throckmorton] Griffin to Richard Hoby. . ."
"The house for convalescents [of the Abbey of Evesham] was granted in 1645, under the name of the 'Seyne house,' to Sir Philip Hoby; it passed with the manor of Abbot's Morton to Sir Edward Hoby, and in 1595 Richard Hoby resided there."
Marriage Bond, 1593. "Hoby, Richard, armiger, Badsey, [&] Newman, Margaret, Chadisley" [CALENDAR OF WILLS AND ADMINISTRATIONS OF WORCESTER (1904), ed. by E.F. Fry, p. 352
The monument to Richard Hoby and his wife Margaret, in Badsey parish church, is unusual in that it lacks an inscription. A further oddity is that it does not commemorate Richard Hoby's own children.
Richard Hoby apparently was the fourth son of William Hoby of Leominster, Herefordshire.
"Richard Hoby died on 11 February, 1616-1617. . . He was a churchwarden at Badsey [Worcestershire] in 1595-6, at which time he was residing at the Seyne House. The Harward, or Harwood family was closely identified with Bretforton at this period, and had many local connections."
