Walter was born in 1861. He passed away in 1944.

Walter's father died in 1866. His mother remarried Thomas Holbrook and in 1875 the whole family emigrated to New Zealand under an assisted immigrant scheme and settled in Nelson. They sailed from England on 7 June 1875 on The Rodney.
