Biography

Amos Hockman was born in North Mountain neighborhood, Shenandoah County, VA,1872, son of Samuel Hockman and Seatta Cullers. Some family trees on Ancestry give his middle name as "White," However, his birth record in the family Bible, death certificate and tombstone do not have a middle name. His son, Amos, had the middle name "White," named after a local doctor who was not even around when the older Amos was born. Amos Hockman was a farmer along the Back Road at North Mountain, about half a mile north of St. Stephens Church (west of Strasburg, Virginia). He also had a small general store on the Back Road.
