Biography

Martha Gray Janeway married 1858 Charles Hodge 2nd MD, son of Charles and Sarah (Bache) Hodge of Princeton, New Jersey. Mrs. Sarah Bache Hodge was the [great] grand-daughter of Benjamin Franklin; her [grand] mother, Sarah Franklin Bache, was one of the leaders in what might now be called a "guild" to provide clothing for the Continental Army, and was personally thanked by General Washington in a letter which is still in the possession of her descendants.

  1. Alice Janeway Hodge (1859- ) married 1889 Price Wetherill Janeway.
  2. Sarah Bache Hodge (1861)
  3. Charles Hodge 3rd (1863-1935) married 1894 Mary Peachey Converse.
  4. Thomas Leiper Hodge (1865- ) married 1894 Rachel Wetherill Janeway; married 2nd 1901 Helen Penrose, no children.
  5. Hugh Bayard Hodge (1867-1936) married 1893 Magaret Crenshaw.
  6. Archibald Alexander Hodge (1870- ) unmarried.
  7. Henry Latimer Hodge (1874-1934) married 1905 Lydia Baird Penrose.
